Role summary
This Staff Nurse role on Lipton Ward, a neuro trauma hyper acute ward, involves assessing care needs, developing and evaluating care programmes, and carrying out care without direct supervision. Job summary
Lipton ward is 1 of only 3 neuro trauma Hyper acute wards in the country, working closely and collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and unqualified staff. The post holder may occasionally have to take charge of a ward in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility.
Main duties of the job
o Participate in the training of other nursing staff, including basic and post basic learners in consultation with Sister/Charge Nurse wherever applicable.
o Control and co-ordinate activities of the ward team in the absence of Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
o Be aware of, and adhere to, all the Trust policies and procedures and standards of care.
o Maintain high standards of nursing care and review these standards with the Ward Manager.
o Participate as a named nurse for a small group of patients.
o Assist subordinate staff to understand their role in the unit team.
o Be aware of the economic use of ward equipment
