Role summary
An exciting opportunity for an innovative and dynamic Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the established Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This 22-bedded acute ward specialises in trauma and orthopaedics, functioning as part of the Thames Valley Trauma Network. The role is suitable for both newly qualified and experienced Staff Nurses interested in developing skills in this specialty. The vision is to be a centre of excellence, and the successful candidate will contribute to achieving this goal.
Key responsibilities
- Supervises the work of the nursing team, ensuring individual programmes of care are formulated accordingly to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
- Undertakes the assessment of patients including risk assessments e.g Waterlow and falls assessments.
- Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.
- Ensures plans of care are implemented and updated as appropriate.
- Takes all measures to ensure the safety of the patient - reporting all accidents and incidents and completing relevant documentation.
- Ability to plan a duty rota, identifying shortfalls in staffing and beginning the process to find replacement staff or reorganize the rota.
Essential criteria
- Good general education
- Registered Nurse (General)
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Ability to resolve conflict and disputes, in a non confrontational manner
- Good communication skills: written and verbal
- Competency in IV drug administration.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of further continued professional development
- First Line Management Course
- ENB 998 or equivalent
- Previous experience as shift/team leader
- Experience of teaching students, HCA's and qualified staff
