Role summary
This role is for an experienced Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to join the C&K CAMHS Crisis and Intensive Home-Based Treatment Team in Calderdale and Kirklees. The post holder will provide emergency assessment and intensive treatment to children and young people with mental health needs, supporting them in the community. It involves managing a caseload, conducting assessments, care planning, and liaising with other professionals. The service operates 365 days a year with shifts between 9am and 8pm.
Key responsibilities
- Provide emergency assessment and intensive treatment and outreach response to children and young people with mental health needs.
- Provide timely access to specialist services for children and young people in crisis or at significant risk, and outreach to those difficult to engage.
- Provide specialist assessment, intensive interventions, and time-limited therapy to children, young people, and families with severe mental health problems.
- Be responsible for managing a caseload, ensuring robust assessment, care planning, interventions, and therapy.
- Work collaboratively with Universal Services and Residential CAMHS providers to provide coherent and co-ordinated mental health services.
Essential criteria

- Training and experience relating to specialist CAMHS.
- Good verbal and communication skills.

- Have good team working skills. Be able to work across disciplines with an ability to predict and manage inter-disciplinary tensions and foster good working practices.

- Relevant professional qualification e.g. nursing, psychologist, psychotherapist, family therapist, or relevant mental health profession.
- Post qualification professional development.
- On-going professional development supervision and/ or experience of mentoring/supporting learners or ability to demonstrate the skills required for effective mentoring.
- Membership of professional bodies.
- Substantial post qualification experience , some of which must be working with Children, young people and their carers in a mental health or other complex care setting.
- Multidisciplinary team working.
- Inter-agency liaison and consultation.
- Experience in patient provision.
- Experience of liaison between different levels of CAMHS.
- A grasp of relevant legislation and guidance e.g. NHS plan, Mental Health Legislation, Children Act, Education Act, Working Together, Childrens NSF, Every Child Matters, etc.
- Clinical/therapeutic knowledge and skills re mental health and behavioural problems including assessment and risk management and ability to implement evidence based practice.
- Understanding of research methodology and audit.
- Proven ability to work with other disciplines and in partnership with other organisations including service users.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of community settings.
- Previous experience in working in a CAMH setting.
- Post Registration qualification e.g. degree.
- Post graduate qualification in mental health (e.g. CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling).
