Role summary
This role is for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Recovery Day Programme team in Milton Keynes, focusing on addiction and mental health. The post holder will support qualified clinical staff in assessments, individual and group therapy, and audit/evaluation. It involves contributing to specialist psychological intervention programmes and managing referral/assessment bookings. The successful candidate will be energetic, robust, and possess sophisticated clinical skills.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and undertake assessments of clients, including motivational interviewing, self-report measures, and risk assessment.
- Write clinical summaries and care plans for presentation to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Provide motivational interventions to clients on CBT group and individual programmes.
- Assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups under supervision.
- Liaise with referrers and clients to facilitate the referral process and maintain oversight of client engagement.
- Assist managers and senior staff to ensure the safe daily operation of the clinic.
Essential criteria
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to communicate around subjects that may be highly emotive
- Highly computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
- A 2:1 honours degree or higher in psychology
- Eligibility to Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society
- Previous direct work in a clinical setting with clients experiencing addiction or mental health problems
- Experience of research
- Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using databases for data analysis, especially SPSS.
- High standard of report writing
- Knowledge of patient database
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology including CAMHS, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
- A desire to explore a career in Professional Psychology
