Role summary
Join a dynamic Orthoptic team as a Senior Orthoptist, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You will work autonomously to assess, diagnose, and manage patients with ocular motility disorders, amblyopia, and complex visual conditions across various specialist clinics. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and offers opportunities for clinical teaching, audit, and service development. Key responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose and manage patients with ocular motility disorders, amblyopia and complex visual conditions.
- Use specialist skills and evidence-based practice to develop effective treatment plans.
- Work across a variety of specialist clinics including paediatric ophthalmology, emergency orthoptics, stroke, low vision and biometry.
- Collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, optometrists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Act as a source of expertise for patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to clinical teaching, audit, research and service development.
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Core Orthoptics
- To demonstrate an interest in ophthalmology and neurology
- Good Organisational and planning skills and well developed interpersonal and communication skills
- To Possess Batchelor of Science in Orthoptics BSc(Orth), BmedSci (Orth) and/or Diploma from the British Orthoptic Council (DBO) or equivalent qualification
- To be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Willing to keep up to date with current literature and keep evidence of CPD activities
- Experience in all aspects of clinical orthoptics
- Provide Orthoptic services at Kings Mill Hospital
Desirable criteria
- IT skills including knowledge of hospital systems
- Has attended the BIOS Clinical tutors Course of equivalent teaching certificate
- Low Vision Therapy course
- Biometry training
- Experience undertaking and presenting clinical audit
- Experience of delivering student supervision and clinical education to Orthoptic undergraduates
- Experience working with stroke patients
- Car driver/ability to travel to Newark Hospital
