Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated Senior Health & Wellbeing Nurse to join the healthcare service at Oasis Restore Secure School (ORSS), the UK's first residential Secure School for 12-18 year olds. The post holder will deliver compassionate nursing assessment, care, and health promotion services, providing a healthy child programme. They will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to the success of the team by being an effective role model and supervising Band 5 nurses, support workers, and students. The role focuses on providing holistic care, ensuring clinical outcomes, and promoting health and well-being for a vulnerable population.
Essential criteria
- Registered NMC nurse Adult / Child / Mental Health / Learning Disability
- Evidence of Continual Professional development.
- Mentorship Preparation or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Further post-registration training specific to candidate's background and experience; i.e. training in CAMHS models of care, or in neuro-developmental assessment
- Specialist Community Public Health Nurse - School Nursing (SCPHN - SN) or willingness to work towards
- Proven post registration experience relevant to secure and/or educational settings.
- Experience of working with diverse communities.
- Knowledge of, and experience of working with children with complex emotional, health and educational needs.
- Knowledge of key legislative frameworks relevant to clinical practice; i.e. the Children's Act, the Mental Health Act and Safeguarding.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches to nursing care
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development
- Experience of working with families in a professional capacity.
- Experience of conducting clinical audit activity.
- Experience in working as part of an integrated team, alongside non-health employed colleagues
- Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent Interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate in an effective way with people from a variety of backgrounds and different ages.
- Skills in communicating with and engaging children with complex needs
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of team working.
- Ability to demonstrate essential leadership skills
- Ability to reflect on clinical practice and to understand own limitations when dealing with emotive issues.
- Ability to act as a mentor / preceptor to students and newly recruited colleagues
- Good computer literacy skills.

We are looking to recruit highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Senior Health & Wellbeing Nurses to join our Healthcare Service at Oasis Restore Secure School (ORSS).
ORSS is the first residential Secure School in the UK and will hold 12-18 year old children. All staff work in line with 'Child First' principles to create a developmentally appropriate and trauma informed healthcare service. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in developing a new service that will have a real impact on promoting health and well-being for this vulnerable population and impact on their future life orientation.
