Role summary
This role involves managing 24-hour medical staff cover, including booking locums and authorising payments. You will monitor Junior Doctors' hours for compliance with New Deal and European Working Time Directives, preparing monthly reports. The position also includes managing medical staff sickness, preparing rotas, overseeing leave, and maintaining personal files. You will coordinate induction processes and update job descriptions for medical staff.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with Temporary Staffing to ensure appropriate locum cover for absences.
- Monitor Junior Doctors' hours for compliance with New Deal and European Working Time Directives.
- Strategically and operationally manage locums effectively and economically, authorising timesheets and payments.
- Coordinate all aspects of induction for medical staff, including producing information packs.
- Update Job Descriptions and timetables for junior medical staff and produce new ones for Consultant/Staff Grade/Clinical Fellows posts.
- Arrange and manage Observer appointments and Honorary Contracts for medical staff, including accommodation for overseas doctors.
Essential criteria
- CIPD Qualification (Level 5) or equivalent experience
- Demonstratable experience of working in an office environment at an operational level with some supervision but able to work on own initiative.
- Specialised Medical staffing experience and/or Generalist NHS HR experience
- Experience of using Allocate software for monitoring of Resident Doctor rotas
- Ability to work on own initiative and cope well under pressure
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using HR and Payroll systems
- Understanding of HR policy and best practice and Employment Law
- Excellent knowledge of Resident Doctor Terms and Conditions of Service, in particular 2016 contract and New Deal
- Excellent knowledge of WTD to enable rota work and monitoring compliance
- Desire and ability to work effectively in a team
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiating and diplomatic skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with all levels of staff
- Ability to work to strict deadlines
- Good attention to detail and high accuracy
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple and sometimes conflicting demands
