Role summary
This role supports the Transformation and Improvement team in delivering project expertise, guidance, and assurance to the Programme Manager. The post holder will lead continuous improvement initiatives, develop strong relationships with clinical divisions, and ensure projects are delivered to high standards with clear objectives. They will also contribute to developing improvement capability across the organisation through education and methodology dissemination. The role requires effective programme and project management skills, with a background in successful improvement realization, ideally within healthcare.
Key responsibilities
- Provide project scoping and design support to operational teams, including facilitating project diagnostics and solution design.
- Support the development of high quality service improvement plans and business cases.
- Develop, implement and operate good governance processes around delivery, including regular reporting on progress and KPIs.
- Provide guidance on project management to project support staff and others, acting as a role model for best practice.
- Facilitate project meetings and workshops, supporting decision making and action completion.
- Manage own time effectively to create the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent level of knowledge, experience and skills
- Training or experience in Project Management
- Working with sources of benchmarking opportunity and use to inform decision making
- Experience of effective management of a team
- Demonstrable track record of achieving high standards and delivering objectives
- Excellent communication skills including oral and written and with different staff groups
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively through multiple routes and to a variety of clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
- Ability to produce written documents and reports for senior managers and Executive colleagues
Desirable criteria
- Training or experience in Programme / Portfolio Management
- Project Management Qualification e.g. Prince 2 Practitioner
- Formal training Six Sigma (minimum Green Belt), QSIR and Lean or equivalent experience
- Leadership course or qualification
- Experience of Programme Management including reporting and tracking of action plans
- Applied knowledge of Programme Management tools and techniques to deliver results
- Proven experience of leading and delivering on significant change projects in a complex organisation
- In depth knowledge of using lean and the methodologies which underpin it

The Transformation Improvement Leads sit within Programme Delivery, delivering project expertise, support, guidance and assurance to the Programme Manager. They provide support across the duration of projects, as required by operational teams, from initial scoping, plan development and engagement through to project completion, documentation and post programme review against Key Performance Indicator improvement and benefits realisation as agreed with the clinical divisions. The post holder will work to develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement within the teams they support, leading through role modelling best practice.
