Role summary

This is an opportunity for a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Medium Secure Forensic Service. The role involves working as part of a Recovery-focused Occupational Therapy Team, delivering specialist group and individual work within an inpatient unit across acute, rehab, and specialist wards. The ideal candidate will have experience in mental health or forensic settings. The position is fixed-term for 6 months.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the OT service in providing specialist OT treatment in inpatient and community settings.
  • Implement OT treatment plans through specialist individual and group treatment programmes.
  • Collaborate with the MDT team in its provision of assessment and treatment of service users.
  • Effectively maintain records and report observations of service users' progress and performance.
  • Ensure all clinical contact incorporates risk assessment and appropriate management of risk.
  • Contribute to the Recovery college programme of activities.

Essential criteria

  • Using a range of practical and creative skills
  • Worked with people who have experienced mental health problems
  • Knowledge of equal Opportunities and confidentiality
  • Basic understanding of needs and concerns of service users in a forensic mental health setting
  • Understanding of OT and ability to learn about the OT process
  • Interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with service users who have complex needs.

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ and/or B-tech in Care related skills
  • Qualification in relevant practical skills
  • Worked within an forensic mental health setting
