Role summary

This role is for a Theatre Practitioner (ODP, Recovery, or Scrub) to join a multidisciplinary team at St Mary's Hospital, Newport. The successful candidate will provide high-quality perioperative care across various surgical specialities, including general, breast, colorectal, gynaecology, obstetrics, trauma & orthopaedics, urology, and emergency surgery. The position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, nights, and on-calls, contributing to a 24/7 service. Key responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe passage of every patient through their perioperative journey.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with organisational standards.
  • Provide effective clinical leadership within the Theatre department, collaborating with the senior Theatre team.
  • Maintain the comfort, dignity, and privacy of patients at all times.
  • Promote a positive learning environment for all team members.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Practitioner with current NMC registration or HCPC registration
  • Evidence of relevant post basic study
  • Can demonstrate the key competencies of the Behavioural Framework
  • Previous experience of Perioperative practice - Scrub/Anaesthetics/Recovery
  • Availability to work full range of duties including Evenings, Weekends, Nights & on-calls

  • Qualified Practice Supervisor/ Assessor/ Mentor
  • Role specific Post Graduate study
  • Evidence of adaptability when faced with changing clinical priorities
  • Able to work communicate effectively within a large Multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates emotional resilience and effective coping strategies in challenging situations

We are recruiting for a Theatre Practitioner to our multi-disciplinary team who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. This is an exciting opportunity to work within perioperative care, we are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated Theatre Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners with suitable knowledge, skills and experience registered with the NMC or HCPC. The role is based within the small and friendly theatre team based at St Mary's Hospital, Newport

You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Trust continues its journey towards "great people, great place ".

Our service consists of 4 Main theatres, 2 Day surgery theatres, 1 Ophthalmology theatre and 1 Maternity theatre. We can provide experience in a number of surgical specialities including:

  • General Surgery* Breast Surgery* Colorectal Surgery* Gynaecology* Obstetrics* Trauma & Orthopaedics* Urology* Emergency Surgery

Due to our unique, collaborative and innovative ways of working you will have opportunity to develop across the different disciplines within perioperative practice to include Post anaesthetic care, Scrub and, (dependant on qualifications) Anaesthetic roles.
