Role summary
This role is for an experienced Maternity Support Worker (MSW) to lead the development and training of their colleagues. The postholder will ensure all MSWs meet the national framework requirements and support newly appointed staff. They will also assist with ongoing training, appraisals, and quality improvement initiatives within maternity services.
Essential criteria
- GCSE Grade C English Language or equivalent
- Secondary education
- Completion of Trust care certificate
- Special circumstances
- Ability to work flexibly, across both sites.
- Willingness to support other areas of the service as the need arises
- Minimum 2 years' experience of working in a maternity healthcare setting
- Experience of teaching both individuals and groups
- Previous experience of working within a Ward/Community setting
- Previous experience of working in a team
- Skills, ability and knowledge
- Patient confidentiality
- Good communication skills both verbally and written to enable liaison with multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrate ability to organise own workload, prioritise and take initiative where necessary
- Logical approach to work, thorough and accurate
- Be flexible and work as part of a team
- Ability to communicate clearly verbally; open, pleasant, and confident manner
- Computer literacy eg can use email, write documents, use internet

Job summary
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic maternity support worker (MSW) who is passionate about providing support to develop their colleagues. The MSW framework provides an outline of required skills for all MSWs, and the successful postholder will be responsible for working with all MSW's across the Trust ensure they continue to meet the requirements of the MSW framework. They will also support newly appointed colleagues to achieve the requirements of the role.
Main duties of the job
In conjunction with the operational matrons, support with on-boarding and training of newly appointed MSWs to meet the requirements of the national MSW framework
Support with on-going training and development of MSWs across the breadth of maternity services
Support with the appraisal process for MSWs
Provide 1-2-1 support within the clinical setting as required
Identify opportunities to engage MSWs in quality improvement within the scope of their role and improve job satisfaction
