Role summary
This role involves working collaboratively with the Lead Nurse for Pre-Operative Assessment (POA) to develop and implement nurse-led clinics. The post holder will undertake pre-assessment of pre-operative patients according to agreed protocols, promoting high standards of professional practice and clinical care. Key responsibilities include assessing patients' health prior to elective surgery, making autonomous decisions regarding suitability for surgery, and coordinating clinical, managerial, and educational requirements within the pre-assessment team. The role requires dynamic leadership and deputising for the lead nurse as appropriate.
Essential criteria
- Experience in Pre Assessment Clinic
Desirable criteria
- Very good knowledge base in the pre-operative pathway
- Education and Experience
- Relevant Nursing Degree or equivalent
- Teaching and assessing qualification or evidence of competency
- Evidence of post registration study
- Extensive post registration experience across the perioperative clinical areas and previous pre assessment experience
- Evidence of continuing development
- Working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to deputise and lead a team
- Knowledge of resource management
- Able to supervise clinical and non-clinical staff
- Self-motivated and able to work autonomously under own initiative as well as a team member
