Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join an inspiring and motivated NHS and social care integrated team. Key responsibilities
- Work systemically with children and young people, their families and wider support networks.
- Assess and formulate the systemic needs of the child, young person and wider family system.
- Collaborate with existing teams and resources, such as the Strengthening Families Team (SFT).
- Develop assessment skills in areas including attachment, parenting, developmental trauma, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and neurodevelopmental difficulties.
- Undertake direct clinical work with children and young people using models such as DBT, and systemic work with family and professional systems.
- Manage data, conduct service audits, monitor outcomes, and engage in research.
Essential criteria
- Good Honours Degree in Psychology
- Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
- Some knowledge and understanding of the client group with whom the post holder will be working.
- Undergraduate level knowledge of psychology including some knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology and models of psychopathology.
- Undergraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Experience of working with clients within a clinical, social care or educational setting.
- Experience of undertaking therapeutic work or involvement in developmental assessments.
- Ability to use interpersonal and communication skills to convey and receive sensitive information effectively, requiring empathy and reassurance, and the ability to overcome barriers to understanding.
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary settings under supervision.
- The ability to consider a range of facts while assessing clients, following guidelines given by the supervisor.
- Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- Ability to manipulate test materials, make observations and record data with a high need for accuracy.
- Basic IT skills.
Desirable criteria
- Attendance at skills development courses or training.
- Experience of working with children, young people and their families within more than one clinical social care or educational setting.
- Ability to speak Welsh
- Advanced IT skills

This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join an inspiring and motivated NHS and social care integrated team under the supervision of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
The team works systemically with children and young people, their families and wider support networks to assess and formulate what the systemic needs of the child, young person and wider family system are. We then work in collaboration with existing teams and resources, such as the Strengthening Families Team (SFT). As a service we use a whole family, strengths-based approach. We have a small residential facility to provide voluntary inpatient support, if needed, and/or provide support in the community.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
