Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and highly organised Clinical Administrator to join the paediatric surgery department at the Great North Children's Hospital. The administrator will provide key operational support to the paediatric surgery team, ensuring seamless, high-quality administrative services with a patient-centred approach. This involves managing patient pathways, optimising theatre and clinic capacity, and handling various administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Manage telephone and email inquiries from families and external care providers.
- Maintain complex electronic diaries for consultants and medical teams, booking and rescheduling appointments.
- Monitor, prioritise, and process urgent surgical referrals to meet NHS waiting times and RTT targets.
- Audit, track, and update patient healthcare data on Trust electronic systems, ensuring confidentiality.
- Format and dispatch clinical letters, discharge summaries, and theatre lists with high typing accuracy.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team, providing cover for administrative colleagues during peak periods.
Essential criteria
- oLevel 3 qualification in administration or equivalent/relevant experience in administrative role(s)
- oEnglish qualification at Level 2 (GCSE Grades 9-4 or A*-C, or Functional or Key Skills at Level 2)
- oMaths qualification at Level 1 (GCSE Grades 3-2 or D-F, or Functional or Key Skills at Level 1
- oExperience of secretarial/administrative procedures
- oIT Skills to include MS Office software packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- oAdvanced keyboard skills including a high standard of word processing skills
- oExcellent communication skills
- oAbility to work without direct supervision
- oAbility to manage time effectively and work on own initiative
- oAbility to accurately input, collate and present information
Desirable criteria
- oNHS Administration/Secretarial experience
- oWorking Knowledge of NHS Systems e.g. eRecord, System One
