Role summary

This role is for a Public Health Midwife working 14.5 hours per week at University Hospital Southampton. The successful candidate will drive improvements in maternity public health, focusing on reducing health inequalities and supporting vulnerable populations. They will lead key public health workstreams, collaborate with various teams, and provide professional leadership and education in public health practice.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level (appropriate subject) or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency at all levels
  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration
  • Post-registration experience across the whole spectrum of pregnancy pathway including normal and complex needs, covering both hospital and community based care
  • Experience of managing a project and project templates and reporting processes

  • Mentorship experience
  • Experience of working in a case loading model of midwifery
  • Experience of working in a continuity of carer model
  • Knowledge and understanding of workforce requirement and modelling
  • Aptitudes and skills required
  • Highly effective communicator with all levels, able to understand, analyse and present complex and sensitive information verbally and in writing
  • Presentation skills
  • Experience of writing a report
  • Conversant with the Better Births framework
  • Awareness of National guidance to deliver continuity of care to reflect National trajectories
  • Innovative

Main duties of the job

We are excited to offer 14.5 hrs per week for the role of public health midwife within University Hospital Southampton (UHS). Working with our current public health midwife, we are looking for a motivated, forward-thinking midwife with a passion for public health and improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies, and families.

You will need to demonstrate initiative, innovation, and the ability to drive improvement across maternity public health priorities, working proactively with colleagues and partners to effect meaningful and sustainable change.

The public health remit within maternity services is broad and continually evolving, and this role is pivotal in leading, coordinating, and embedding key public health priorities across the maternity pathway.

You will play a crucial role in improving outcomes for women, birthing people, babies, and families, with a particular focus on reducing health inequalities and supporting our most vulnerable populations.
