Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist to join a community team in Derby City and Southern Derbyshire. The role involves managing a neurodevelopmental caseload, providing leadership, and delivering high-quality, child-centred physiotherapy across various community settings. You will assess, intervene, and advise children and young people with complex physical needs, working in partnership with families and multidisciplinary colleagues. Key responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload of children and young people (CYP) with developmental difficulties and complex physical needs across community settings.
- Provide highly specialised physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, intervention, review and evaluation, ensuring care is evidence-based and outcome focused.
- Work in partnership with families and multidisciplinary colleagues to develop, implement and review individualised intervention programmes.
- Take a leadership role within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, offering specialist consultation and advice.
- Coordinate Community Physiotherapy services within a designated locality, managing referrals, prioritisation, caseload allocation and discharge processes.
- Deputise for the Clinical Team Lead, providing clinical and operational leadership, supervision, appraisal, mentoring and support to junior staff.
Essential criteria
- oPhysiotherapy degree or equivalent diploma
- oRegistered with Health Professions Council
- oRelevant Band 6 experience within Paediatric Physiotherapy
- oEvidence of relevant postgraduate courses (CPD portfolio) to evidence knowledge of neuromuscular, congenital and orthopaedic conditions
- oLeadership training
- oGood organisation skills and timekeeping and the ability to prioritise, delegate and supervise others
- oGood interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict resolution, including the ability to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and tact
- oAbility to communicate effectively with CYP of all ages and abilities and their carers.
- oMultidisciplinary team working
- oDocumentation and report writing skills
- oRelevant specialist Paediatric Physiotherapy training e.g. Bobath / Oxford Seating / Biomechanics of Gait
- oAbility to work independently using own initiative
- oKnowledge of a variety of adjuncts to therapy e.g. orthotics, mobility aids, specialist equipment for postural management
- oKnowledge of legislation relating to professional practice and CYP / safeguarding / disability.
- oSound understanding of, and ability to contribute to, clinical governance and risk
- oAbility to assess and treat CYP with physical disabilities
- oAbility to plan and evaluate treatment programmes
- oKnowledge of a variety of paediatric conditions relating to physical disability in CYP, including cerebral palsy, Muscular dystrophies and other neuro-developmental conditions who may also present with multiple and complex needs
- oPassion for Paediatric Physiotherapy
