Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated and experienced podiatrist to provide advanced podiatric care, with a strong focus on diabetes foot protection, to patients with complex foot health needs. The post holder will work autonomously and as part of a team, leading and educating others, managing complex caseloads, and supporting self-management plans. It requires excellent clinical leadership, communication, and IT skills, along with the ability to visit housebound patients.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and provide high quality podiatric care to people with complex foot health needs and lower limbs that are at risk, with an emphasis on diabetes foot protection.
- Agree care plans with patients that support self-management and optimise foot health, in line with service priorities.
- Manage complex patients at an advanced level, working autonomously and alongside other healthcare professionals.
- Visit housebound patients in their own homes, requiring driving and access to a car.
- Manage other people's workload, demonstrating strong teamworking and problem-solving skills.
Essential criteria
- Podiatry Diploma/Degree
- Local Analgesia Certificate
- Registration with HCPC
- Qualified driver with a full clean driving licence
- Experience of managing a caseload of "High Risk and Active Ulcer" Diabetic foot patients
- At least 2 years recent community podiatry experience
- Clinical Leadership skills for autonomous practice and coaching others
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including accurate record keeping
- Able to facilitate the integration of evidence-based practices in the clinical setting
- IT skills with Microsoft and Clinical systems and virtual consultation skills
Desirable criteria
- A postgraduate qualification in Management of the Foot in Diabetes
- IRMER Compliance certificate
- Experience of team leadership
- Experience of implementing protocols and clinical guidelines
- Experience of Competency assessment, Clinical Supervision and Appraisal

Job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated podiatrist, who is passionate about their profession and enjoys making a difference to people's lives. You will be expected to work at an advanced level and should aspire to lead, educate and develop others in the team.
We welcome applications from clinicians currently working at band 6. Ideally you will have at least five years' NHS experience and be confident in all aspects of podiatry care and team working. You must be able to lead by example and inspire the team to work effectively and achieve good outcomes for patients.
You will provide high-quality podiatric care, for people at risk of developing serious foot health complications. There is emphasis on diabetes foot protection as the population we serve has a very high incidence of diabetes.
You will have the support of our friendly peer group of experienced clinicians, who are committed to providing excellent clinical care, which is patient centred and compassionate
The service works closely with district nursing teams, tissue viability nurses, and local integrated teams. as well as linking with the wider MDT and PCN networks. We have a direct pathway into the Diabetic Foot Clinic at West Middlesex University Hospital.
