Role summary
This role is for a Health Care Assistant on the Oasis Unit, a ten-bedded medical ward for patients with dementia or cognitive impairment. You will support registered nurses in all aspects of patient care, including daily living activities, mobility, and maintaining a clean environment. The position requires working rotational shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- To support patients with all aspects of daily living, including washing, dressing and toileting.
- Assisting patients with meaningful activities as part of distraction and reminiscence therapy.
- Supporting patients with mobility, including moving and handling and use of equipment.
- Maintaining positional changes and skin integrity.
- Helping with eating and drinking, completing fluid balance and food diaries, social activities, emotional and wellbeing support.
- Completing safety checks on equipment, cleaning equipment.
- General house keeping and maintaining a clean and safe ward environment.
- Completing relevant paperwork to a high standard.
Essential criteria
- Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)
- Care Certificate or willing to work towards
- Experience of working as a Care Support Worker or equivalent in a Health or Social care setting
- Experience of working within a team
- Good communication (written and verbal skills)
- Basic IT skills
- Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates an interest or previous experience in supporting other health care staff and learners
- Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)

Job summary
The Oasis Unit is a ten bedded medical ward for patients who require hospital treatment, and who also have dementia or a cognitive impairment. The ward is staffed by two registered nurses and two Health Care Assistants.
All posts are rotational and you will be required to work days/ nights/ weekends and Bank Holidays.
