Role summary
This role involves performing abdominal ultrasound scans for the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme within Nottinghamshire. The technician will conduct screenings in various community and hospital settings, adhering to national and local guidelines. Key responsibilities include transporting equipment, recording clinical measurements, informing patients of results, and dealing with anxious individuals. The successful candidate must complete the Level 3 Health Screening Diploma and maintain yearly reaccreditation.

Desirable criteria
- Have NVQ level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners
- Successfully reaccredited as a AAA Screening Technician
- Must understand hospital environment and patient care & confidentiality
- Evidence of understanding medical terminology
- Previous use and understanding of computer systems
- Competent in the use of Microsoft office software
- Working in a team
- Strong evidence of communicating sensitive information
- Experience of working in community setting
- NHS experience

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work for the National Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme within the Nottinghamshire multi-professional team.
The National AAA Screening Programmes aim is to reduce the number of people who die from a AAA in the eligible population. Those eligible for screening are in their 65th year or older, assigned male at birth and who are registered with a GP. Research shows that by scanning those eligible for screening, reduces the rate of premature deaths from ruptured AAAs by up to 50%.
The post holder will be required to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning within various community and hospital-based clinics around the Nottinghamshire County, in accordance with national and local guidelines. Whilst ensuring work is undertaken to a high standard. The postholder must undertake and successfully pass, the national accredited Health Screening Diploma and yearly assessments of their continuing competency.
