Role summary
This role is for a committed and experienced Nurse to provide clear clinical leadership within the multi-disciplinary Neurodevelopmental Team, specifically for the autism assessment service. You will support the coordination of clinical activities, undertake assessments, and ensure safe, high-quality care. The position involves working closely with AHP and Nursing service leads, as well as the Operational Manager, to deliver efficient assessments for children and young people with suspected ASD/ADHD/neurodevelopmental needs. You will also liaise with external agencies across health, education, and social care.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clear clinical leadership within the NDP autism service for junior nurses and identified clinical and support staff.
- Support the co-ordination of clinical activities within the service, participating in clinical activity including undertaking assessments as part of the autism assessment pathway.
- Ensure safe high-quality care is maintained by providing clinical judgement to undertake clinical harms reviews, safe care reviews and safe discharges.
- Manage Autism pathway team members, including junior nurses, clinical assistants and healthcare workers.
- Work with Clinical Service Coordinators & Service Clinical Manager to ensure services meet local and national standards.
- Undertake assessments and develop programmes of care for children as part of the multi-disciplinary team at various locations.
Essential criteria
- oDegree or relevant clinical qualification (NMC RSCN, Learning Disability, Health Visiting, School Nursing, Midwifery)
- oEvidence of continuous professional development relevant to this area of work
- oSignificant experience of working in relevant children's services, including working with children with additional health needs/disabilities including Autism and ADHD with a focus on recognising risk
- oExperience of management of staff
- oKnowledge of relevant HR policies
- oEngagement of people who are socially excluded, disabled or disadvantaged, including seeking and responding to feedback/complaints.
- oExperience of managing/supporting change in the work environment
- oUnderstanding of Equality and Diversity
- oExperience of multi-disciplinary team working
- oGood understanding of the local and national perspective and strategy for the NHS and related areas of health and children's services, particularly those pertinent to children with disabilities
- oKnowledge of the principles of governance and performance management, including financial management
- oEvidence of application of the appropriate codes of conduct and scope and standards of professional practice for the individual's clinical background
- oSound knowledge of safeguarding issues and practice and evidence of up-to-date training in this area
- oEvidence of leadership skills
- oAbility to work effectively in teams and with other professions/agencies
- oStrong negotiating skills
- oExcellent and adaptable communication skills
- oAbility to be flexible and responsive in times of change
- oConfident decision maker

- oADOS assessment or an ability to undertake or experience in autism assessments
