Role summary
This Assistant Psychologist role supports the Brighter Futures Clinical Psychology Service, which works with children, young people, and families involved with Children's Social Care in Ealing. The primary focus is on indirect work such as service development, evaluation, resource creation, and gathering feedback, rather than direct clinical activity. The post holder will receive regular clinical supervision and have opportunities for skill development in a specialist setting. The role involves supporting quality improvement and routine outcome monitoring.
Key responsibilities
- Support the team with service development, evaluation, quality improvement and routine outcome monitoring.
- Help develop and refine resources and training materials.
- Support the collection and organisation of feedback and data from social care colleagues and foster carers.
- Contribute to simple audits and service-user involvement and co-production activities.
- Co-deliver groups and assist with assessments under supervision (limited opportunity).
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Work experience with families, children or adults with mental health difficulties and/or social care needs.
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- Experience using computers for databases or data-analysis, for example Excel, SPSS for Windows.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems, other disabilities, and social/ contextual difficulties.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health and social care context
- An understanding of psychology applied to health and social care.
- An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
- An ability to interact with children, young people and families who have complex needs and may be hard to engage.
- Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- Willingness to work flexibly when necessary.
- Commitment to working collaboratively with team colleagues to support innovative ways of working.
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
- Experience of working within a Health, Education or Social Care setting.
- Experience of teaching and training, or group work.
- Experience of working with families from different cultural contexts.
- Experience of clinically relevant research or audit.
- High standard of report writing.
- Experience of having written research and/or evaluation reports and papers.
- Knowledge of the issues of conducting research/evaluation in the context of multi-agency teams.
- Experience of working within a multi-cultural framework, with people with a diverse range of backgrounds.
- An interest in working with people with social and mental health/health difficulties or disabilities.
- An interest in service development and research and a passion for evidence-based practice.

Job summary
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Psychologist (0.4 WTE) in Brighter Futures (BF) Clinical Psychology Service. BF Clinical Psychology Service is a team of clinical psychologists embedded across statutory children's services including children looked after, leaving care, adoption and safeguarding/child protection.
The Assistant Psychologist role is primarily focused on enabling and supporting the team to deliver psychological services to children, young people and families who are supported by Children's Social Care Services in Ealing. This involves mainly indirect and supportive work, such as service development, evaluation, resource creation and gathering feedback, rather than direct clinical activity.
The post holder will receive regular clinical supervision from a clinical psychologist and have the opportunity to develop skills in both indirect and direct work in a supportive and specialist setting. They will also have access to training to support them in their role.
