Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated psychology graduate to join the Psychological Services for Older People in South Essex as an assistant psychologist. The role involves developing and implementing psychological group interventions, delivering neuropsychological assessments, and contributing to service evaluation through audit and research. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, receive weekly clinical supervision, and have opportunities for continuous professional development. Prior experience is not necessary, but a passion for working with older people is essential.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement psychological group interventions for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Deliver neuropsychological assessments to people referred to memory assessment services.
- Contribute to ongoing service evaluation and development through audit and research.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Attend continuous professional development groups.
- Engage in weekly clinical supervision with qualified psychologists.
Essential criteria
- An Upper Second (2), First (4), MSC or above 6
- An understanding of the needs of others with mental health problems
- Knowledge of research methods, data collection, audits, etcs
- An understanding of the needs of others with mental health problems/dementia
- High level of communication skills
- Ability to communicate sensitive information
- Literate in IT skills
- Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise own workload
- Ability to interact effectively with staff from all discipline
- Ability to interact with vulnerable others (including those with a diagnosis of mental health problems or dementia).

- Experience of paid work in direct care provision with older people
- Experience of neuropsychological assessment
