Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Registered Children's Nurse to join the Neonatal team at Ormskirk Hospital. The role involves providing high-quality family integrated care to babies and their families in a Level 2 unit with 10 cots. You will assess, plan, develop, and implement patient care programmes, carry out nursing procedures, and supervise junior staff and learners. The position is a 12-month maternity cover, part-time for 30 hours per week, and requires flexibility, good communication skills, and a commitment to excellent care.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan, develop and implement programmes of care to patients, providing advice in a variety of settings.
- Carry out nursing procedures in line with current NMC standards of proficiency.
- Ensure the health, wellbeing and independence of patients and service users across healthcare settings, maintaining associated records, ensuring all patients always receive safe and effective care.
- Supervision of junior staff and all learners.
- Always understand and demonstrate the Trust values.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered Nurse (degree/diploma)
- Current NMC registration
- Evidence of contiual professional development
- Frequent moderate effort for several short periods of time such as manual handling of patients and equipment.
- Frequent concentration required for drug calculation and Administration.
- Dealing with frequent interruptions and competing demands.
- Ability to work within highly distressing or emotional circumstances e.g. end of life care.
- Ability to communicate distressing information.
- Ability to communicate in a challenging environment
- Able to carry out direct clinical care as required on ward or department.
- Potential blood or body fluids exposure.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build relationships at all levels
- Able to prioritise and co-ordinate own workload
- Ability to de-escalate complex situations
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Awareness of the need for confidentiality at all times
- Computer literacy e.g. experience of electronic patient record
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code.
- Experience of working in a clinical environment
- Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- An understanding of national, regional, and local NHS issues
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information

We are a Level 2 unit with 10 cots providing high quality family integrated care to babies and their families within the North West of England.
If you would like you to join our friendly, experienced neonatal team & help develop our vision for neonatal services in Ormskirk, you must be flexible, have good communication skills, be committed to providing excellent care and be RSCN/RM/RN Child Branch qualified with some experience of neonates.
As part of the role you will be given the chance to develop your management responsibilities, taking charge of daily activities on the Unit, utilising skills required for working in a diverse team and environment.
The post is rotational to night duty and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.
