Role summary
This role is for an NMC registered RMN/RN (Mental Health) with a keen interest in perinatal mental health, working at the Beeches Mother and Baby (MBU) Unit. The unit provides specialist inpatient care for women with mental illness during the perinatal period, aiming to support mothers' recovery and babies' development while keeping them together. The nurse will join a multi-disciplinary team, providing high-quality care and benefiting from excellent training and development opportunities in this specialism. This post is not suitable for newly qualified nurses.

- Trained in clinical supervision
- Have an active interest in perinatal services
- Previous experience working with families
- Previous experience working within an acute mental health setting
- Previous experience working within perinatal services
- Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Hold a working knowledge of CPA and legal frameworks and legislation relating to mental health care.
- Be able to work in a patient centred, safe and evidence based manner
- Be able to plan, delegate, prioritise and deliver care in line with the needs of the ward
- Be able to recognise and respond to behaviours that challenge in a compassionate and least restrictive manner
- Be able to evidence an ongoing commitment to learning
- Demonstrate knowledge of current perinatal national drivers and their implication for practice
- Be prepared to lead on an area of interest , develop appropriate audit tools, resources and training for the team
- Have knowledge of relevant attachment and infant mental health theory

Job summary
Here at the Beeches Mother and Baby (MBU) Unit, we aim to create a positive and supportive community to promote the mother's recovery and baby's development.
The team provide specialist inpatient care for up to 6 women with moderate to serious mental illness, during the perinatal period. This is a crucial and vulnerable time for women.
As many as one in five women experience post or ante natal depression, anxiety or in some cases severe mental illness such as psychosis during pregnancy or in the first year after childbirth.
The purpose of the MBU is to keep the Mother & Baby together, whilst treating the mother's mental health and promoting or maintaining attachment and bonding.
We accept admission for women in late stages of pregnancy and up until the baby is 1 year old.
Please Note : This post is unfortunately NOT open to newly qualified nurses and preceptorship must have been completed.
Main duties of the job
