Role summary
This is an exciting fixed-term opportunity for an experienced Band 5 or established Band 6 Dietitian to join the Acute Dietetic Team at George Eliot Hospital. The role involves providing assessment and rehabilitation to inpatients and community patients requiring oral and enteral feeding, with a focus on stroke patients. You will work autonomously, manage your own caseload, and contribute to audits and quality improvement projects, supported by specialist colleagues. Excellent communication skills are essential for working within the multidisciplinary team and delivering evidence-based dietetic services.
Essential criteria
- BSc in Dietetics or equivalent
- Dietitian registered with the Health Care Professions Council
- Documented evidence of continuing professional development including relevant post registration training
- BDA member
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Education Skills Course
- Relevant post registration dietetic experience
- Experience in educating, training and presenting to patient groups and staff
- Experience in clinical supervision of dietetic students
- Experience in designated specialist area
- Experience of undertaking elements of clinical governance projects / work
- Interest in specialist area
- Up to date dietetic professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent and evidence of continuous professional development and an awareness of best practice in dietetics
- Able to analyse complex information and to make judgements on dietetic issues
- Able to communicate complex and sensitive information in an understandable form for patients and their carers using dietary counselling, motivational and negotiation skills
- Able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills with a range of people from a variety of backgrounds, minimising risk of miscommunication
- Able to plan, deliver and evaluate training and group work
- Able to plan & prioritise own caseload using time management skills
- Able to use a computer and have basic knowledge of word processing, e-mail, dietary analysis, presentation preparation and electronic patient records
- Clinical supervision skills
- Able to be an effective member of the dietetic and multidisciplinary team
- Able to work under pressure and handle challenging situations
- Able to work independently but know own limitations and when to ask for support and help from senior colleagues and members of the MDT

- Independent means of travel (community posts) and able to travel to training & meetings within Warwickshire (all posts)

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to a fixed term Band 6 Specialist Dietitian within Stroke. You will join our friendly Acute Dietetic Team at George Eliot Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialist Dietitian who will become part of the multidisciplinary team and provide assessment and rehabilitation to both inpatients and patients in community settings, who require oral and enteral feeding. This varied role provides the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and be supported by Specialist Dietitians and other AHPs, as well as the opportunity to lead on audits and quality improvement projects.
You need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Working as a member of the dietetic team and with other healthcare professionals, you will deliver an efficient and evidence-based dietetic service. We have regular departmental meetings, clinical supervision sessions and education meetings. We are committed to your ongoing personal & professional development and can offer a range of opportunities to help meet your training needs.
