Role summary

The University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking an experienced and energetic People Advisor to join their People Operations Team. This role involves managing complex employee relations casework, coaching managers, and delivering practical HR solutions within a busy NHS environment. Key responsibilities include handling complex sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance cases, formal investigations, and advising on organisational change and employment law. The ideal candidate will work independently, manage a varied caseload, and build trusted relationships across the organisation.

Essential criteria

  • oEducated to degree level or equivalent level of experience. oCIPD qualified to Level 5
  • oProviding operational Workforce advice in a progressive Workforce function within a large complex organisation. oMust be able to demonstrate considerable Workforce operational experience in the following areas: oProviding advice and recommendations to managers on employee relations issues including disciplinary, grievance. Providing support with investigations, including comprehensive report writing. Capability matters including comprehensive report writing. oImplementing, advising and recommending on Workforce policies and procedures including absence management, recruitment and selection. oWorking within Operational Workforce preferably in the NHS. oAdvising on successful change management programmes/initiatives. oAnalysing data and producing reports. oDesigning and delivering training and development workshops/programmes. oReviewing/devising Workforce policies/procedures, oPresenting and advising at disciplinary/grievance hearings

  • oGood analytical skills and ability to quickly interpret data/information from a variety of sources. oAble to communicate effectively demonstrating tact/sensitivity/understanding to a wide range of different people. oAble to deal with complex and sensitive situations and information. oAble to make and influence decisions. oAble to effectively communicate with and influence all levels of the multi-disciplinary team and build effective working relationships with managers and staff. oExcellent verbal and written presentation skills. oAble to autonomously manage and deliver a varied and full caseload. oAbility to function effectively as a Workforce team member oAbility to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. oDetailed knowledge of the main Workforce issues and initiatives in the NHS and the implications for the Workforce function. oSound knowledge and understanding of current employment/equal opportunities law.
