Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Community Practitioner within the Northumberland Emotional Wellbeing Support Team (NEWST), an innovative and integrated Health and Social Care team. You will work within Northumberland's Children's Social Care to support children and young people, including those in Family Help, Edge of Care, and Children in Care services. The position focuses on increasing clinical understanding of children's needs, promoting safe relationships, and improving outcomes through consultation, assessment, and therapeutic approaches. The team's practice is built on the belief that therapeutic change happens through relationships, supporting adults closest to children who have experienced trauma.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to developing clinical understanding of children's and young people's needs.
- Promote safe, stable, and positive relationships through consultation, assessment, and therapeutic approaches.
- Support long-term wellbeing and improve outcomes for children and young people.
- Work alongside social care professionals, carers, families, and wider systems.
Essential criteria
- Professional Qualification and current Professional Registration as, a First Level Registered Nurse (RNMH, RMN, RNLD) or equivalent as an AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist
- Mentorship/Practice Educator Training
- Evidence of post-registration training in clinical/ psychological interventions / skills relevant to the post.
- Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post (CAMHS, Trauma therapies, formulation etc)
- Up-to-date knowledge/experience of relevant legislation.
- Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex mental health needs.
- Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance).
- Ability to work in a team and lone working
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Evidence of a high level of professional, organisational and leadership skills (self & others).
- 12 to 24 month band 6 Registered professionals experience dependent upon service need.
- Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, NMC standards and other local and national initiatives.
Desirable criteria
- Working in CAMHS inpatient or secure setting
- Leadership & Delegation skills
- Training & Induction of staff.
- Debriefing skills.
- Understanding of difficult to manage/challenging behaviours.
