Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic Bank Pharmacy Technician to join the prison healthcare team at HMP Holme House. The post holder will assist in providing a safe, legal, and high-quality pharmaceutical service within the prison environment, always maintaining security. Key duties include supporting pharmacy services, administering and supplying medication to prisoners, and advising colleagues and prisoners on medicines optimisation.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high quality prison pharmaceutical service.
- Maintain a high level of security at all times within the prison environment.
- Work as an integral member of the Pharmacy Team within the wider healthcare setting.
- Support the delivery of Pharmacy Services, including administration and supply of medication to prisoners.
- Provide advice to other colleagues and prisoners on medicines optimisation within your competency.
- Be required to work bank holidays and weekends, with the role based on the house blocks.
Essential criteria
- BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
- Appropriate accredited technician checking qualification
- Knowledge of medicines optimisation issues
- Pharmacy legal requirements and controlled drug legislation
- Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
- Computer literate- able to use Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to prepare reports and bulletins
- Influencing skills
- Able to use Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook (or competent to complete) Patient counselling skills
- Has a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues
- Ability to work in a complex and challenging environment
- Able to demonstrate a good standard of literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.
- Has a good understanding of security issues in relation to the prison environment
- Substance misuse knowledge
- Able to interpret and understand prescribing information
- Medicines supply / administration direct to the patient
- Smoking cessation advisor
- Experience of Immunisation and vaccinations
- Experience of capillary blood testing procedures
