Role summary
This Staff Nurse role in Paediatrics involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care programmes within the RDCEC paediatric nursing service. The post holder will work across the paediatric ophthalmic day surgery ward, out-patient clinics, and A&E, providing family-centred care. They will also act as a resource for child protection advice and contribute to continuous practice development. Key responsibilities
- Maintaining accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation programmes of care within the framework of paediatric nursing.
- Assist with both direct and indirect care for children, young people and their families/carers.
- Assist with advice and support to colleagues, patients and their families/carers.
- Provide point of contact for children, young people and their families and other health professionals during working hours.
- Participate in Safeguarding children and Young People within the Trust and ensure that the Trust Safeguarding Policy is adhered to.
- To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of junior colleagues and students.
Essential criteria
- Registered Paediatric/Child Branch Nurse NMC registered
- Ability to prioritise own workload and that of others
- Demonstrates evidence of developed clinical practice
- Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children and young people
Desirable criteria
- Ophthalmic Qualification
- Paediatric ophthalmic nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years post qualifying paediatric nursing experience
- Demonstrates ophthalmic nursing knowledge
- Demonstrates an understanding of audit, quality and governance issues

Job summary
The post holder will take responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care programmes throughout the RDCEC paediatric nursing service and will be able to reflect on their working practices to develop team cohesion and patient care.
The post holder will be using their skills and experience in the paediatric ophthalmic day surgery ward, paediatric ophthalmic out-patient clinics and paediatric ophthalmic A&E.
The post holder will also act as a resource for child protection advice in the absence of senior colleagues and will show evidence of continuing practice development.
The post holder will be a supportive team member with an understanding of child development and what impact this can have on their response to their hospital pathway. The post holder will also be aware of the different needs of children and their families and will work with them to deliver family-centred care,
