Role summary

This is a 12-month fixed-term training opportunity for individuals dedicated to working with children and young people. The role involves enrolling in a post-graduate diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, starting January 2027, in conjunction with Exeter University. Trainees will attend university teaching days twice a week and spend the remaining time on supervision, study, and clinical work. The position focuses on providing specialist CAMHS assessment and treatment interventions for children and young people with emotional and mental health difficulties.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide specialist CAMHS assessment and treatment interventions for children & young people (0-18yrs), presenting with emotional & mental health difficulties and those CYP with learning disabilities.
  • Undertake clinical responsibility for caseload, adhering to risk management & care planning processes in line with Care Programme Approach (CPA).
  • Provide CAMHS specialist clinical risk assessments (inc Self Harm) & complex risk management plans.
  • Provide clinical interventions within a multidisciplinary team with outlined roles, responsibilities, and activity/performance expectations.
  • Ensure high quality, accurate & contemporaneous clinical record keeping is maintained in line with current Trust policies.
  • Provide CAMHS consultation, training & advice to professionals working within a range of children's services.

Essential criteria

  • Professional Health or Social Care qualification: RNLD, RMHN, OT, MHSW
  • Demonstrate current registration with a regulated professional body/ organisation: NMC, HCPC,
  • Evidence of formal post registration learning
  • KSA applicants a level 6 qualification; a first degree or equivalent. Minimum of 4 years equivalent full-time work in a relevant mental health or psychotherapeutic setting. Ability to complete KSA self statements, KSA 1 life stages and human development. KSA 4 Models of therapy. KSA 6 Maintain and manage reports. KSA 8 Awareness of risk. KSA 14 Record of experience. These statements to be completed prior to interview and after shortlisting.
  • Significant clinical experience of delivering evidence based/best practice clinical interventions within CAMHS or related services and/or adult mental health settings. For LD posts, demonstrate experience with delivering the above related to working with children and young people with complex learning disability needs.
  • Experience of undertaking specialist Self Harm assessments of children and young people
  • Significant clinical experience of specialist care planning & case management/care coordination (including complex clinical risk assessment & management) within a mental health or learning disability setting.
  • Significant experience of CAMHS related multi-agency collaborative working and joint care planning,
  • Experience of identifying and managing complex safeguarding concerns, including using formal processes to escalate safeguarding issues
  • Experience of providing specialist CAMHS related consultation/training and advice to partner agencies
  • Significant experience of providing personalised care planning to meet mental health or learning disabilities needs
  • Significant experience of delivering profession-based interventions within a clinical/therapeutic setting

Desirable criteria

  • Post graduate training within a relevant CAMHS field or skill
  • Profession specific additional qualifications (i.e LD, nurse prescriber, DBT, CBT, AMHP, family therapy or systemic practice)

Job summary

This role is offered on a fixed term/ secondment basis for 12 months.

Internal applicants who wish to be considered for a secondment opportunity should discuss with their line manager the suitability of a possible secondment

We are looking for exceptional individuals who are dedicated to working with children and young people and keen to take up this brilliant training opportunity. You will enrol in the CYP-IAPT 12 month post- graduate diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy beginning January 2027. Under the recruit to train process we are in the position to offer 2 CBT trainee contracts (AfC Band 6), working in conjunction with Exeter University. While undertaking training you will attend teaching days at least twice a week (on line and in person) with the University. The remaining 3 days will be used for supervision, study and therapeutic clinical work.
