Role summary
Join the NHS 111 team in Bicester as a Health Advisor, providing calm and confident support to callers with various health concerns, from everyday issues to emergencies. This role requires compassion, confidence, clear communication, and resilience, but no prior medical experience is necessary as full training will be provided. You will handle a wide variety of calls, guiding individuals and helping them identify serious conditions. The position is office-based and offers a chance to build an NHS career with real progression and stability.
Key responsibilities
- Handle a huge variety of calls, from everyday health concerns to real emergencies.
- Support individuals in distress, guide worried parents, or help identify signs of serious conditions.
- Balance assertiveness with empathy while being detail-focused and efficient.
- Support colleagues and contribute to delivering exceptional patient care.
- Complete a full 6-week NHS Pathways training programme.
Essential criteria
- Good all round education (i.e. 2 GCSEs at equivalent of grade 4 or above including English), or equivalent demonstrable experience in a similar role
- Experience in a customer/patient services environment, dealing with the members of the general public
- Experience of using computerised systems
- Experience of using a telephone as a regular means of communication in a work environment
Desirable criteria
- NHS Pathways Trained
- NVQ 2/3 Customer Services or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Experience in a call centre environment
- Geographical knowledge of the operational area
- Experience of working rotating shifts
- Previous experience of working in the voluntary or health sector
- Previous experience of patient care
- Knowledge of first aid and/or anatomy
