Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Analytical and Specialist Chemistry section of the Clinical Biochemistry department at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The role involves working with a wide range of analytical services, including toxicology and endocrinology, utilising various complex methods and analysers. The successful candidate will manage their own work, process urgent and routine tasks, communicate complex scientific information, and maintain specialist analytical equipment. Significant clinical biochemistry experience is required, with specialist analytical chemistry methods being advantageous.
Key responsibilities
- Manage own work and day-to-day routine work in specialised services, processing urgent and routine tasks to maintain turnaround times.
- Communicate complex clinical scientific service related test information to managers, consultants, nurses, other healthcare colleagues, patients, and patient carers.
- Maintain very complex specialist analytical equipment on a daily basis and sign off as fit for clinical use.
- Demonstrate ongoing competence to practice by attending courses, lectures, mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and other training activities.
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- State registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)
- Significant post State Registration experience in a Clinical Service as a new entrant
- Understands clinical analyser performance evaluation to include very complex instrumentation
- In depth knowledge of the assays performed within their service
- Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence

Job summary
The Eastern Pathology Alliance is formed from three Pathology Laboratories based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH), the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn (QEH).
We have an exciting opportunity for an HCPC registered Biomedical scientist to work full time in the Analytical and Specialist Chemistry section of the Clinical Biochemistry department.
The Laboratory at NNUH provides a large range of Blood Sciences services comprising Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion, Immunology and Toxicology.
The laboratory at QEH provides 24/7 laboratory services in Haematology, Transfusion and biochemistry primarily for the Inpatient and outpatient demands for the Trust.

Main duties of the job
The Analytical and Specialist Chemistry section of the NNUH Clinical Biochemistry department provides a wide range of analytical services over two sub-section disciplines.
The toxicology discipline provides a wide range of analytical services, including urine drugs of abuse, immunosuppressant drug monitoring, trace element analysis, urine metanephrines & 5-HIAA, and 25-OH vitamin D. These analyses require the use, and maintenance by the BMS staff of a variety of different methods and analysers including; tandem mass spectrometry, ICP-MS, HPLC, immunoassay and QTo
