Key responsibilities
- Provide highly specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and management for children and adults with deafness and additional communication needs.
- Interpret complex clinical and audiological information to inform treatment planning and contribute to cochlear implant candidacy decisions.
- Deliver specialist individual and group interventions, supporting effective use of cochlear implant technology.
- Work collaboratively with health, education, social care, and voluntary sector partners to ensure coordinated care.
- Provide training for patients, families, and professionals, and support student placements.
- Undertake research, audit, and service evaluation to inform practice and contribute to innovation.
Essential criteria
- Speech and Language Therapy qualification Bachelor Level or equivalent
- Additional postgraduate training up to master's degree equivalent
- Significant professional experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist in a range of settings
- Experience working with deaf people
- Experience of delivering training and presentations at local and regional level
- Experience working with people using hearing implants and assistive listening devices
- Experience communicating with patients who have additional sensory and/or learning needs
- Ability to make judgements involving complex facts which require the analysis, interpretation and differential diagnosis of findings
- Evidence of research and analytical skills
Desirable criteria
- Masters/PG Dip in working with deaf people or equivalent
- Additional specialist skills and qualifications in a recognised sub speciality e.g. AVT, counselling, leadership,
- Experience working with people with hearing implants and assistive listening devices
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and use of Excel spreadsheets
- Experience of working with people through interpeters
- Knowledge of NAIP guidelines, national cochlear implant standards and relevant legislation

Job summary
The post holder is responsible for managing a highly specialised caseload of deaf children, by supporting during assessment and also following cochlear implantation. They will also have regular adult clinics, for both assessment and post operative rehabilitation. We are looking for an experienced clinician to join our team, on a full time basis, although we would consider part time hours. The post holder will work for a multi-disciplinary team based in an outpatient site of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, joining a team of highly specialist Speech and Language Therapists at the Nottingham Auditory Implant Programme. The post holder will work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals from Health, Education and Social Services, with advisory visits to home, nurseries and schools as required. They will contribute to research and audit projects and to the team's teaching and training commitments. The post holder typically carries out clinical work for 80% of the time, both face-to-face and via video consultations, and is expected to update their own professional knowledge.
