Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 ODP/Nurse Team Leader in Orthopaedic Theatres at Good Hope Hospital. The role involves working in a regional centre supporting complex elective and trauma orthopaedic cases. Candidates need a minimum of three years' experience as a band 5 in orthopaedic scrub and must demonstrate effective leadership skills. The position requires flexibility, adaptability to clinical demands, and a strong commitment to teaching and developing staff within the Trauma and Orthopaedic service.
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse / HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner
- Knowledge of a broad range of theatre procedures and instrumentation/ processes equivalent to post graduate level acquired through Diploma / Degree plus experience and further study or qualification or an equivalent level of knowledge associated with the practice setting
Desirable criteria
- Health care leadership / management qualification
- Recent experience within theatres working as a registered practitioner in an acute practice setting involving the supervision/education of junior staff
- Can demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of working in at least 2 areas of peri operative practice (anaesthetics , scrub or recovery ) , and in different specialties including elective and emergency practice settings
- Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- Evidence of effective multi-professional working
- Experienced mentor / assessor / student supervisor

- Evidence of the ability to confidently lead / coordinate a shift / area of the department
- Evidence of the ability to organise others and forward plan and review/ adjust staff rotas
- Experienced in learning from incidents / complaints and supporting changes in practice
- Wide knowledge of a range or pre and post-operative care, ability to plan and organise duties / service requirements associated with physical and human resources , ability to allocate tasks / duties to a range of staff
- Can demonstrate an understanding of human resource management associated with codes of practice / professional and Trust guidelines
- Can demonstrate understanding of how to review/ plan staff rotas in accordance with Trust guidance/ service need and mitigate workforce risks associated with staff deployment

Job summary
An exciting opportunity is now available within our Theatre Department as we have a vacancy for a Band 6 ODP/ Nurse Team Leader in our Orthopaedic Theatres at Good Hope Hospital.
We are a regional centre, supporting some very complex elective and trauma orthopaedic cases so our team are dedicated, friendly and enjoy teaching and sharing their skills with new staff members. Our service is continuing to expand and we embrace new developments within the clinical area. This includes learning new practice and keeping up to date with changes within the clinical setting
Experience of working within an orthopaedic setting is essential so candidates will need to be a band 5 with a minimum of three years' experience in this speciality. You will need to be flexible and able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and be able to adapt to clinical demands in an environment that can be unpredictable and challenging.
The candidate must have the clinical experience in orthopaedics scrub in order to support the junior workforce.
