Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 7 cardiac physiologist, specializing in either echocardiography or cardiac devices. You will perform and interpret complex invasive cardiovascular investigations and long-term device monitoring, or independently perform and report transthoracic echoes and support other complex studies. The department aims to implement more physiologist-led services, offering opportunities for skill development and role advancement. You will also support junior team members and students, ensuring high-quality care and adherence to best practice guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the deployment of echocardiography and invasive services in line with national standards.
- Work independently to ensure an efficient service and provide support to patients and relatives.
- Undertake complex diagnostic procedures such as stress echo, scientist-led valve clinics, or complex device implants.
- Advise Consultant Physicians and other medical/technical staff on clinical and technological issues.
- Support the development and management of procedures, protocols, and guidelines, ensuring safety and clinical governance.
- Contribute to and implement the Cardiac Physiology services within the Trust, liaising with clinical leads and other healthcare professionals.
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons.) in Healthcare Science (Clinical Physiology) or B'TEC HNC MPPM
- Registered with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS / RCCP) or HCPC
- British Society of Echo Accreditation for TTE and/or British Heart Rhythm Society. Accreditation
- Immediate/Advanced life support qualification.
- Qualified independent expert practitioner in echo and/or devices with significant experience at a highly specialist grade.
- Experience of clinical decision making as an independent practitioner
- Experienced in complex cardiac investigations including stress/contrast echo, Transoesophageal echo, complex device implants and follow up
- Experience of a range of cardiorespiratory equipment.
- Experience of training other grades/staff groups and clinical assessment.
- Detailed knowledge of Cardiac Physiology
- Able to implement theoretical knowledge in to practice.
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality.
- Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff.
- Implementation and maintenance of clinical governance in area of specialty
- Understands local and national targets
- Understands the national training structures and develops staff in area of service accordingly
- Excellent communication, motivational and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and able to work to deadlines
- Effective IT skills - able to navigate clinical systems and generic IT programmes such as Microsoft Office
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex/sensitive information
- Demonstrates Manual dexterity and able to move large pieces of equipment safely
- Displays care, compassion, sensitivity and responsiveness to other peoples' feelings and needs.

- Masters qualification relevant to post (e.g. MSc. Diagnostic Imaging, MSc Advanced Practice

Job summary
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 7 cardiac physiologists. The department offers a wide range of invasive and non-invasive cardiac and respiratory diagnostic tests. You will be specialist in either echo or cardiac devices but will have experience in all cardiac procedures to support the wider team. The department looks after 1500 patients with devices including high power, cardiac resynchronisation and brady devices. We perform approximately 6000 echo studies per year which includes transthoracic, transoesophageal, stress echo and contrast/bubble studies. The department is currently looking to implement more physiologist led services, giving the opportunity to develop skills and advance your role
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an expert in Echocardiography and/or Devices.
You will work as an advanced-level healthcare science practitioner within the field of invasive cardiac physiology or echocardiography.
If devices are your area of expertise you will be performing and interpreting complex invasive cardiovascular investigations, interventions, and long-term device monitoring services for elective, urgent, and emergency patients ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.
