Role summary

This is a temporary part-time opportunity for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with an interest in Neuropsychology to join the Nottingham Community Stroke Team. The role involves providing specialist neuropsychological assessment and therapeutic services to stroke patients within their homes, focusing on cognitive rehabilitation, risk assessment, and adjustment to neurological impairment. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, offering consultation and training to staff, and supporting stepped care models for mood and cognition. Regular supervision will be provided, and the post offers a chance to gain further experience in Neuropsychology.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver a high quality, specialist Clinical Neuropsychology service for adults up to 12 months post stroke within their home environment.
  • Provide specialist neuropsychological assessment and a therapeutic service including cognitive rehabilitation, risk assessment, and improving coping and adjustment to living with neurological impairment.
  • Implement care pathways and protocols to assess and manage mood and cognition difficulties in accordance with national guidance.
  • Liaise with associated hospital stroke wards and colleagues in Primary Care.
  • Support the Community Stroke Team by offering advice, consultation, training, and supervision regarding neuropsychological assessment and management of stroke.
  • Engage with appropriate CPD and networking to ensure best practice.

Essential criteria

  • BPS accredited Doctoral Level training qualification in Clinical/Counselling Psychology
  • Health & Care Professions Council Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist: Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
  • Eligible for Chartered status of the British Psychological Society

Desirable criteria

  • Completion of the knowledge component of the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN)
  • Experience in clinical neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with neuropsychological assessments and interventions
  • Experience of working with carers and relatives
  • Knowledge of psychological issues in the neuropsychology of stroke, stroke rehabilitation and physical health care including national guidelines
  • An interest in gaining experience, clinical skills and knowledge in clinical neuropsychology and stroke rehabilitation
  • Able to display empathy and professionalism whilst communicating with clients where there may be high levels of emotion, hostility, and resistance
  • Able to communicate with clients with cognitive and communication difficulties
  • Able to relate well to other professional groups
  • Contractual requirements
  • A full current UK driving license and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010. Ability to travel to provide a service as part of a community team in patients' homes as well as between sites
  • Ability to carry out work from home in a confidential and professional manner when required including adequate internet connection
  • Physical Requirements
  • Sustained periods of sitting and is required to travel to patient homes and between NHS sites to deliver a psychological service as part of a community team. The post holder is required to move psychometric tests and portable IT equipment as required
  • Qualifications & professional membership

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist with an interest in Neuropsychology to join the successful Nottingham Community Stroke Team(CST) on a temporary basis. The post involves working as part of a multidisciplinary community stroke team providing rehabilitation up to twelve months post stroke within patient's homes. You will work together with an experienced colleague in stroke to provide psychological care to stroke patients.

As a valued member of the MDT, you will mainly provide direct clinical work with opportunities for consultation and training to staff regarding patients' psychological/neuropsychological care. You will support stepped care models for mood and cognition. Regular supervision will be provided by a Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Stroke, in addition, the Lead Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist will be available for informal contact. The role is temporary providing maternity cover until the end of May 2027 and would provides an opportunity to gain further experience in Neuropsychology. Some experience of working with patients with neurological conditions including neuropsychological assessment would be an advantage and an interest in Neuropsy
