Role summary

This role involves joining the Resuscitation Training Team as a Band 6 Resuscitation Officer, delivering high-quality resuscitation training and clinical support across the Trust. The post-holder will provide Basic and Immediate Life Support education, maintain resuscitation equipment, and contribute to audits and service improvement. It is a part-time position based at York Hospital, with opportunities for professional development including becoming an instructor for advanced resuscitation courses. The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse/ODP/Paramedic with acute clinical experience and a passion for education and patient safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality resuscitation training and clinical support across the Trust.
  • Provide Basic and Immediate Life Support education.
  • Assist in maintaining resuscitation equipment.
  • Contribute to audits, data collection, and service improvement.
  • Report outcomes to the Resuscitation Team Lead.
  • Build experience towards managing more complex training, teaching advanced courses, and governance responsibilities.

Essential criteria

  • At least 3 years of working within an acute healthcare setting (for example ED, ICU, theatres, acute medicine, CCU, paramedicine)
  • Relevant clinical teaching experience
  • Direct involvement in responding to patient deterioration, medical emergencies, and/or cardiac arrests.
  • Familiarity with ABCDE assessment, early warning scores (NEWS2), and escalation pathways
  • Experience with airway management, safe defibrillation, use of emergency equipment and strong resuscitation knowledge.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary emergency teams and interprofessional decision-making
  • Registered Health Care Professional (Nurse, ODP, AHP, Paramedic)
  • RCUK Advanced Life Support Provider - adult or paediatric (ALS/EPALS)
  • Education certification or equivalent teaching qualification/experience

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of active/ current involvement in clinical simulation activities in resuscitation practice & education.
  • Governance and audit experience.
  • ALS/EPALS Instructor or nomination of instructor potential from provider course
  • GIC-certified Instructor
  • Teaching qualification (PGCE or similar)

Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced healthcare professional to join our Resuscitation Training Team as a Band 6 Resuscitation Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in improving patient outcomes through the delivery of high-quality resuscitation training and clinical support across the entire organisation.

This role is ideal for a Registered Nurse/ODP/Paramedic with a passion for education, patient safety, and quality improvement. As a Band 6 Resuscitation Officer you will have significant post-registration clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to confidently teach and support staff in a wide range of professional roles.

This role provides ample opportunities for continuing professional development with the successful candidate being supported in completing the Resuscitation Council UK's Generic Instructor Course and becoming a confident and competent instructor in all levels of Resuscitation Training including the Advanced Courses.

This is a part-time position based at York Hospital with an expectation to occasionally travel to work and provide training in other locations across the Trust.
