Role summary

This role seeks an experienced registered healthcare professional to join the Divisional Clinical Governance Team. You will support the clinical governance manager in managing patient safety, risk management, and governance within the CSSS division. The post involves promoting an open and transparent culture to improve clinical safety and quality, enhancing patient experience, and mitigating risks. You will work closely with ward managers, Matrons, and Service Leads, supporting incident investigation, complaints management, and policy development. This is a fast-paced role requiring the ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to clinical governance policy development and implementation.
  • Promote a culture of risk management across the division.
  • Support divisional managers with the implementation of the clinical governance agenda and risk management strategy.
  • Lead and support others to lead appropriate levels of incident investigations.
  • Review incident forms and risk assessments, analysing and reporting significant risk trends and issues.

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Healthcare related subject.
  • Current professional registration
  • Evidence of expert professional/clinical knowledge in an area supplemented by specialist clinical training and CPD.
  • Experience of working clinically post registration.
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of a program of care, protocols, and audit.
  • Evidence of initiative-taking involvement in the development of clinical practice.
  • Effective communicator able to communicate complex and sensitive information.
  • Evidence of effective people management and leadership skills.
  • Can demonstrate assertiveness, tact and diplomacy appropriately.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Must be able to receive and present complex, sensitive or contentious information to large and influential groups.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues including performance and change.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium, and long-term periods and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly.
  • Experience of project principles techniques or quality improvement programmes.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
  • Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options.
  • Has the ability to manage conflicting views and reconciles inter and intra professional differences of opinion.
  • Working knowledge of the Datix Risk Management system.
  • Knowledge of Governance and Risk areas, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Mental effort: To exert frequent concentration - responding to frequent changing operational pressures and to deal with service issues.
  • Emotional effort: The post holder will at times be exposed to distressing and occasional highly distressing and emotional circumstances.
