Role summary
This role is for an NHS 111 Health Advisor in Milton Keynes, providing a crucial service by handling a variety of calls from the public, ranging from general health concerns to emergencies. The position requires compassion, confidence, clear communication, and resilience, but no prior medical experience as full training is provided. You will be the first point of contact for patients, guiding them through their health concerns and ensuring they receive appropriate advice or care. This is an office-based role with no remote working options.
Key responsibilities
- Handle a wide variety of calls, from everyday health concerns to real emergencies.
- Provide a calm and confident voice to help callers through difficult moments.
- Guide worried parents and help individuals identify signs of serious conditions.
- Utilise full 6-week NHS Pathways training to assess and advise callers.
- Work in an office-based environment in Milton Keynes.
Essential criteria
- Good all round education (i.e. 2 GCSEs at equivalent of grade 4 or above including English), or equivalent demonstrable experience in a similar role
- Experience in a customer/patient services environment, dealing with the members of the general public
- Experience of using computerised systems
- Experience of using a telephone as a regular means of communication in a work environment
Desirable criteria
- NHS Pathways Trained
- NVQ 2/3 Customer Services or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Experience in a call centre environment
- Geographical knowledge of the operational area
- Experience of working rotating shifts
- Previous experience of working in the voluntary or health sector
- Previous experience of patient care
- Knowledge of first aid and/or anatomy
