Role summary

This role is for a Specialist Gastroenterology and Hepatology Dietitian, working as a senior autonomous practitioner. The post holder will provide dietetic support and advice to patients, carers, and health professionals within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service. Key responsibilities include delivering complex, evidence-based nutrition services, participating in multi-professional groups, and contributing to policy development and audit reviews. The role may require working in different locations and potentially evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as part of a seven-day service.

Essential criteria

  • Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent leading to Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Dietitian
  • A teaching qualification or experience of teaching groups
  • oPost registration dietetic experience including at least 2 years experience of delivering services in an acute hospital
  • oExperience of working within a specialist area of nutrition and dietetics. Ideally this should include some evidence of working with gastroenterology patients, but could demonstrate an acute clinical back-ground.
  • oExperience managing tube fed patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting
  • oAbility to use time management, communication and/or team working skills effectively
  • oEvidence of an accurate and up to date portfolio in order to demonstrate Continued Professional Development (CPD) and lifelong learning.
  • oDemonstrate the use of evidence based practice
  • oCompetently demonstrate experience of "best dietetic practice" in a range of clinical conditions including gastroenterology conditions.
  • oVaried and comprehensive clinical experience in order to demonstrate the ability to deliver best practice for a range of more complex conditions
  • oExperience of working in a confidential manner
  • oEvidence of active participation in audit activities in dietetic practice

Job summary

Specialist Gastroenterology and Hepatology Dietitian Band 6 - Full time

To work as a senior autonomous practitioner providing dietetic support and advice for patients referred to the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Dietetic service, their carers, and Health Professionals.

To contribute to policy development.

To develop appropriate resources as required.

To help to support and/or establish research and development and a robust audit review of the nutrition and dietetic service.

Main duties of the job

To deliver a complex and high-quality evidence-based nutrition and dietetic service to Gastroenterology and Hepatology patients.

To provide a skilled service to Gastroenterology and Hepatology inpatients and outpatients.

To have a high level of knowledge, skills and experience to approach tasks with an open and understanding mind and deal with situations in a timely and empathic manner.

To be responsible for nutrition and dietetic participation in multi-professional groups and contribute to policy making as directed by the head of service

May be required to deliver a service in different locations.

RCHT is working towards seven-day service delivery and the post holder may be required to work on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
