Role summary
This role is for an experienced Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic Psychologist within the Children and Young People's Division (Forward Thinking Birmingham) in the Personality and Complex Trauma (PACT) Team. The team works with children, young people (age 14-25), carers, and families, offering intensive and longer-term interventions for those with high levels of distress and risk. The post involves applying psychological skills in consultation, training, supervision, service development, leadership, research, and direct clinical work. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, committed, and skilled in working effectively within a multidisciplinary team, providing a range of clinical services.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a range of clinical services as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Conduct complex case assessment and formulation.
- Apply evidence-based psychological interventions, both individual and in groups.
- Work with children and young people with complex mental health and behavioural needs.
- Contribute to consultation, training, supervision, service development, leadership, and research.
Essential criteria
- Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist eligible for chartered status
- Registration with appropriate body (eg HCPC, ACP, BACP, AFT)
- Experience of assessing and treating children, young people and/or young adults in the community.
- Experience of assessing and managing risky clients in the community.
- Some experience of contributing to planning and evaluation of services
- Experience of providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment for clients across the full range of mental health settings to include outpatient, community, day services and in-patient settings.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
- Ability to communicate well and to form good working relationships with professionals at all levels.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Ability to travel across the city of Birmingham, between bases and within the community for work purposes.
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
