Role summary
This is a full-time fixed-term Practice Nurse Educator (PNE) role covering maternity leave until March 2027. The PNE supports the facilitation of a learning environment and embeds a learning culture within the East Sussex Division. It's a clinical leadership role for registered mental health nurses, focusing on developing competence and confidence in the nursing workforce. The role aims to improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of patient care, with a particular focus on newly qualified nurses.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership through role modelling and oversight of clinical practice.
- Support registered and unregistered nursing staff, including those recruited from overseas.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate a programme of clinically relevant practice education.
- Actively support the objectives of the organisational people plan, nursing plan, and quality plan.
- Provide specialist education knowledge to promote and support the Clinical Governance agenda and NMC standards.
- Offer training and development based on essential skills for service improvement, working collaboratively with the senior leadership team.
Essential criteria
- Registered mental health nurse with extensive recent clinical experience
- Educated to degree level
- Completion of recognised Supporting Learners in Practice (SLiP) or Practice Assessors study days
- Robust evidence of own personal development, and that of influencing and supporting a learning environment within a team
- Experience in change management
- Audit and research skills

Job summary
East Sussex Division are pleased to be advertising a full time fixed term Practice Nurse Educator (PNE) role to cover maternity leave until end March 2027 . This is an innovative clinical mental health nursing role which supports the facilitation of a learning environment, embedding a learning culture and works as an addition to other clinical roles.
The PNE role offers the opportunity for registered mental health nurse to work in a clinical leadership role to support and educate the nursing workforce and works to develop competence and confidence of the mental health nursing workforce and improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of care provided to patients.
Main duties of the job
The PNE role will support the development and learning of our nursing workforce with a particular focus on newly qualified nurses. The PNE role will support the supply and retention of registered nurses and the mental health & well being of the workforce.
