Role summary
This role involves supporting patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties as part of the Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy service. You will implement planned treatment interventions and assist in developing care programmes, working independently under the direction of qualified clinicians. The position also includes providing administrative and IT support to the service. You will be based across Shelley Road and Alderney Hospital sites.
Essential criteria
- Ability to develop relationships with patients, carers, staff and work within a team.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent (or working towards) in rehabilitation.
- Business travel
- Full Driving Licence and access to a car.
- Additional Requirements
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English and effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Job specific experience
- Experience of the practical applications of IT systems/software.
- Experience of working with people with acquired communication disability.
- Personal qualities/attributes
- Ability to recognize own limitations and be prepared to seek advice, when necessary.

Dorset HealthCare are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our supportive team!
As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant you will be joining The Dorset Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy service that is supportive and dynamic. You will be responsible for supporting patients and the service across Shelley Road and Alderney Hospital sites. We welcome ideas of change that could contribute to creating a better service for people living with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.
You will be supported by Speech and Language Therapists including a team manager and clinical manager. You will have the opportunity to work with SLT assistant's and local adult acute SLT teams and the paediatric SLT community team is available to enable development. We offer CPD opportunities, regular supervision and peer supervision.
We could be flexible with how the hours are met over the working days, as long as the services needs are met. We embrace flexible working and we support a hybrid model of working from home as well as the office.
