Role summary
This role is for a highly motivated Peer Support Worker with lived experience of mental health services, specifically psychosis, to join the North CMH team. You will provide one-to-one and group peer support, drawing on your personal recovery journey to help service users identify their goals and achieve recovery. The role involves co-production, supporting self-management, and contributing to service development within a multi-disciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide peer support to people accessing services, drawing on lived experience.
- Support service users in their personal recovery by identifying strengths, values, and aspirations.
- Work with people in public places and community settings, building safe and effective relationships.
- Co-produce and facilitate therapeutic groups for service users.
- Co-produce and deliver staff training.
Essential criteria
- Lived experience of psychosis or lived experience of extraordinary / unusual / confusing / puzzling thoughts and perceptions
- Knowledge of mental health and associated difficulties, including primary and secondary health & social care in relation to recovery principles and practice.
- Knowledge of the philosophy and principles of co-production and service user and carer led recovery initiatives.
- Awareness of the impact of stigma and discrimination and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
- Good IT skills, including some knowledge of and skills in the use of Microsoft Office software programs, e.g. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Excellent problem solving and organisational skills.
- oEducated to GCSE level in Maths and English Language, or equivalent.
- willingness to undertake any further training as required.
- oDirect experience of using mental health or voluntary services and ability to use this experience positively in the role and be willing and able to share one's own personal recovery to help others.
- oPersonal experience of recovery and being in a supportive and enabling role.
- oExperience of being with people who use mental health services and some experience of supporting them with their recovery.
- oAbility to work flexibly to meet the needs of the role, and to cope with changing situations, needs and demands and a varying timetable of work.
- oAbility to develop and maintain safe and effective therapeutic recovery relationships.
- oCommitment to recovery philosophy and values.
- oWilling to travel within a geographical area in a timely and effective manner.
- oGenuine passion for working with people who experience mental health conditions specific to the service
- oAbility to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
- oExperience of providing training and / or group work.
- oExperience of working in the health or voluntary sector and/ or partnership working.
- oExperience of working in a community facing role.
- oExperience of working in a team or a group environment.

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated & enthusiastic individual with lived experience of receiving care from mental health services & lived experience of psychosis or lived experience of extraordinary / unusual / confusing / puzzling thoughts & perceptions. You will be a valued member of the North CMH team working alongside a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team sharing relevant personal experiences & draw on insights & skills developed through your own recovery to come alongside people using services on a one-to-one and group basis to explore people's own goals & personalised recovery.
We will support your learning as & access an ImROC training programme to equip you for a career in peer support.
This will be a dynamic role with lots of variation & will include :-
- Providing peer support to people accessing services
- Understand a person's experiences in relation to their mental health
- To enable/assist/support service users to develop self-management of their condition taking an empowering approach to promote independence
- Co-production is at the heart of our service and will be vital within the role of peer support worker, in terms of the development of the service.
