Role summary

This is an apprenticeship opportunity for a Podiatry Assistant to contribute to patient care within a professional team. The role involves assisting qualified Podiatrists, maintaining accurate records, and developing rapport with patients. Around 20% of working hours will be dedicated to training for a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification. The trust is committed to developing its staff and enhancing service quality.

Essential criteria

  • English and Maths at level 2 or equivalent (GCSE 9-4 or A*- C or functional skills level 2
  • NVQ Level 2 in a related subject NVQ level 3 in related subject or willingness to undertake a relevant Level 3 Apprenticeship
  • Good Organisational and Time Management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively i.e. written, oral skills and IT skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a delegated area and as part of a team.
  • Ability to evidence the skills required in accordance with the skills map.
  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team within a delegated workload.

Desirable criteria

  • Supervisory skills desirable.
  • Statutory and mandatory training as identified within the Trust policy e.g. moving & handling, fire lecture, information governance, and resuscitation update.
  • Able to make non-judgemental decisions, seek advice based on their findings.
  • Ability to prioritise workload depending on variability and unpredictability of patient / service user dependency.
  • Able to work in complex environments dealing with difficult emotional situations
  • Ability to identify needs and problem solve following a competency framework/skills map
  • Understanding of the principles of care management.
  • Awareness of factors that contribute to good health and the importance of promoting these in line with organisational public health policy.
  • Skills/Abilities
  • IT literate
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Trust policies and national guidelines
  • Due to the need to travel between multiple varied locations during the working day, it is essential that the post holder is either a car driver or able to be independently mobile in a suitable vehicle.
  • To maintain, update and develop personal, professional knowledge and skills achieving high standards of patient care at all times.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Contribute to discussions during patient / service user care management meeting.
  • Organise own day-to-day workload, within their delegated scope of practice according to relevant skills map.
  • Risk assessment skills.
  • Skilled moving and handling of patients / service users, objects / Equipment following trust policy and local assessment.

Job summary

The Podiatry Assistant will contribute to the assessment, implementation and delivery of high-quality patient care within a professional team. Will demonstrate responsibility to patients, relatives and colleagues through contribution to the development and monitoring of agreed evidence-based practice and to the health and social care programmes.
