Role summary
This role involves translating patient care information into nationally recognised clinical codes to improve patient services, support clinical research, and ensure accurate representation of healthcare. You will analyse complex clinical records, apply national coding standards, and collaborate with clinicians to clarify documentation. The position contributes to the Trust's financial sustainability and strategic decision-making by producing high-quality coded data. Training and support will be provided for those who have not yet achieved the National Clinical Coding Qualification.

- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, have the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Ability to prioritise and work under pressure
- Able to relate to staff at all levels in an organisation and to build strong working relationships.
- Able to manage regular workload
- Work flexibly to meet varying deadlines and targets.
- Excellent attention to detail and keyboard skills
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
- A thorough understanding of the clinical coding classifications currently in use (ICD10 and OPCS4).
- Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms.
- Understanding of importance of Data Quality in Clinical Coding.
- Educated to GSCE level or equivalent, including Maths and English.
- Willingness to work towards National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
- Completed Clinical Coding Standards Course (Band 4 only)
- Previous experience within the NHS or an acute hospital setting
