Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse to specialize in neonatal care within the SCBU and Transitional Care unit. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality care to sick and preterm newborns in a family-centred environment. Opportunities are available to complete Foundations in Neonatal Care and further develop into a qualified Neonatal Nurse. The position involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and supporting junior colleagues.
Key responsibilities
- Co-ordinate and provide skilled nursing care to babies and their parents.
- Manage and implement the assessment, planning, delivery & evaluation of evidence-based care.
- Deliver effective discharge planning, liaising with other professionals and agencies.
- Promote family integrated care and act as an advocate for babies.
- Provide nursing care to high dependency babies during acute and stabilised phases.
- Co-ordinate and lead a team of nurses during a clinical shift as required.
Essential criteria
- Higher Diploma/ Degree RSCN/RN/RM
- Evidence of CPD
- Numeracy and IT skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of evidence based practices
- Demonstrates understanding of clinical audit and clinical effectiveness
- Able to effectively plan and delegate duties
- Able to manage personal time effectively
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the concept of family integrated care
- Evidence of wide variety of clinical skills
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of child protection requirements
- Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing issues & NHS priorities
- Able to work as an effective team member
- Able to adapt to changing circumstances and demonstrates ability to influence change successfully
- Shows initiative: able to think positively and stimulate a productive team climate
- Able to achieve individual and team objectives
- Able to communicate at a variety of levels
- Good work attendance record
- Able to work flexible shifts including night duty, weekends & bank holidays

- Assessor & Mentor qualification (308CPD) or equivalent
- Neonatal Intensive care course
- Recent Neonatal experience
- One year post registration experience
