Role summary

This role is for a Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse to manage and deliver a portfolio of paediatric studies, primarily based in Paediatric ED at St. Mary's Hospital, but also covering infectious diseases, haematology, and paediatric intensive care. Training in ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines will be provided.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee the setup, delivery and management of a portfolio of paediatric clinical research studies.
  • Assess and manage care pathways for research participants, including recruitment, education, and monitoring.
  • Provide support for research participants and their families, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with the research team and wider multidisciplinary team to support existing clinical trials.
  • Ensure working knowledge and compliance with local, national, and international research regulations, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Essential criteria

  • Registered nurse
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 year at band 5 in a relevant clinical area
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of specialist patient group
  • Proven teaching and assessing skills
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

  • RSCN/RN (child)
  • Non-medical prescribing
  • Advanced practice qualification
  • Knowledge of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure
  • Experience in managing complex information
  • Proven participation in the consent process for patients entering clinical trials
  • Clinical Research and audit experience
  • Change management skills and involvement in project work

Job summary

We currently have a vacancy for a Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse to oversee the setup, delivery and management of our portfolio of studies mainly based in Paediatric ED but also covering infectious diseases, haematology and paediatric intensive care clinical research studies.

The role will be primarily based at St. Mary's with most of the recruitment of participants taking place in Paediatric ED but will also involve working over various areas of the hospital and potentially occasional visits across different sites within the Trust.

The post is open to secondment or part-time or jobshare applicants who ideally be a qualified paediatric nurse with some clinical research experience. The post holder(s) will have strong clinical skills in general and emergency paediatric care and some general leadership experience. In addition, they will be an enthusiastic individual who is looking to advance their career in clinical research, particularly in the fields of paediatric emergency and childhood diseases.
