Role summary

This role involves joining the Electronic Health Record (EHR) team to support UCLH's Epic EHR system and wider digital partnerships. You will work with clinical, administrative, and managerial staff to analyze processes, agree on best practice standards, and modify Epic to support these workflows. The position requires testing changes, providing end-user support, and participating in a rolling upgrade program. Candidates without Epic certification will start at Band 6 and progress to Band 7 upon certification and demonstrated competence.

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with clinical, administrative & managerial staff, analysing their processes & helping them agree clinical best practice standards & workflows.
  • Modify Epic to reflect & support working practices.
  • Test changes to ensure they fulfil organisation requirements, are safe, & work as expected.
  • Provide end-user support using specialist application knowledge through regular meetings & incident investigation & resolution.
  • Participate in a rolling upgrade programme which delivers new features & functionality.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Masters level, equivalent professional qualification including professional registration or equivalent experience
  • Excellent operational knowledge of the advertised area including relevant operational policies and procedures
  • Epic Certification
  • Ability to understand the requirements of and work effectively within a demanding project environment
  • IT or software configuration experience
  • Previous experience of working within complex cultural environment
  • Understanding of clinical, administrative and /or operational workflows and processes within a hospital environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience of supporting change management
  • Ability to understand highly complex problems, analyse and document workflows and current practice, identifying opportunities for change
  • The ability to maintain issues logs and work to a project plan
  • Sound organisation and planning skills ability to prioritise a demanding workload in a high pressure and very challenging environment, maintaining delivery of quality outputs to tight deadlines and frequent interruptions
  • Have the ability to work alone as well as working with other work streams when and where necessary
  • Intermediate knowledge of IT systems and software programmes such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to impart knowledge and/or present to others in a clear and concise manner
  • Able to work collaboratively with own team members as well as those in other application teams
  • Good analytical and project management skills
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels in the organisation, including clinical staff and managerial staff as well as with external suppliers
  • Confident in working with, negotiating with, and motivating clinical staff, medical consultants and/or other senior managers
  • Ability to make decisions based on highly complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation, or comparison of a range of options

Job summary

We are looking to recruit and train enthusiastic healthcare and administrative professionals with a keen interest in digital healthcare to join our Electronic Health Record (EHR) team. Successful candidates will join an experienced and diverse team of analysts supporting UCLH's Epic EHR and our wider digital partnerships.

Patients are at the centre of everything we do. Epic helps us deliver safer, more efficient and patient-centred care by giving staff and patients access to the right information, in the right place, at the right time. Our team also supports the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) and will play an important role in future Epic Connect partnerships.
