Role summary
This is an exciting one-year secondment opportunity for a Band 6 Clinical Research Nurse to join the Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) at St Mary's Hospital. The role involves delivering clinical research across children's and neonatal services, focusing on neonatal studies. The successful applicant will be part of a first-class team, supporting the setup and delivery of Neonatal and Paediatric studies, ensuring research safeguards patient well-being and adheres to ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines. Training will be provided to ensure patient safety and compliance with GCP.
Key responsibilities
- Support the aims of the Trust and the NIHR in developing clinical and academic research knowledge and skills to improve the speed, quality and integration of clinical research in the NHS.
- Provide a grounding in clinical practice and an academic framework conducting research particularly into children's respiratory and allergy conditions.
- Act as a recognised expert and professional role model within the clinical research environment, including direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, audit and research projects.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the research environment to support the delivery and development of research portfolios.
- Take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects, including identification of participants, recruitment, performance, and maintenance of study documentation.
- Enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice, information and acting as the patients advocate.
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- RSCN/RN (child)
- Non-medical prescribing
- Advanced practice qualification
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Band 5 experience in a relevant clinical area
- Knowledge of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure
- Experience in managing complex information
- Proven participation in the consent process for patients entering clinical trials
- Skills/knowledge/ abilities
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge of specialist patient group
- Proven teaching and assessing skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work across boundaries, integrating with multidisciplinary staff in relation to research trials
- Change management skills and involvement in project work
- Evidence of accuracy to detail in data collection
- Knowledge of clinical research methodology and trial protocols

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Clinical Research Nurse, to join our Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF) at St Mary's Hospital on a one-year secondment. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to get involved with delivering clinical research throughout children's and neonatal services at Imperial.
The successful applicant for this post will be part of a first-class team of research delivery staff, who manage our ongoing neonatal studies. This role will support the Children Clinical Research Facility with the set up and delivery of Neonatal and Paediatric studies. The post-holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards patients' well-being and is conducted in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.
Previous experience in relevant clinical fields would be highly desirable but is not essential as long as the applicant has a strong foundation of clinical skills in neonatal and paediatric care. The role will be supported with all the necessary training required to ensure patient safety and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to the highest level of excellence. Experience in clinical research is desirable.
